Edge of the Wilderness Byway

Take a scenic drive up the Edge of the Wilderness Scenic Byway, also known as Hwy 38 that runs from Grand Rapids to Effie, Minnesota.  The Edge of the Wilderness Scenic Byway in Minnesota is known for its rolling hills, forests, lakes, and abundant wildlife.

The byway winds around more than 1,000 lakes

TREES

The byway passes through the Chippewa National Forest, which is home to many aspen, birch, pine, and maple trees

WILDLIFE

The byway is home to bald eagles, and is a great place for wildlife viewing

The byway has designated sites where visitors can learn about the area's history and culture

The byway has hiking and skiing trails

FALL COLORS

The byway's trees change color in the fall, with red sugar maples, bronze oak trees, and gold aspen and birch

The byway is known for its excellent fishing

The byway was once used by loggers moving through the Chippewa National Forest
